I just updated this page to WordPress 2.5. Holy balls is it so much better.
I’m sure you haven’t noticed because no one even reads it, but if you had been keeping up with the blog, you’d have been seeing a lot of changes over the last 24 hours as I test things out and try to change some code.
The dashboard moves light-years faster which makes it a ton easier to add widgets, edit themes, and just generally mess around with stuff. So, now I’ve got this new theme. Yeah, it’s one of (if not the) most popular WordPress theme, but I’ve tried to update some stuff on it to make it a little different. Also, I’m working on getting some good pictures together to replace the standard ones that go across the header and make absolutely no sense.
One of the things I’m more excited about is the NextGEN photo gallery creator. I never got around to paying for flickr, so I’m hoping this will work out as a great way to share my pictures on the blog. Now I just need to get back to taking pictures.
I’ll let you know when the update’s finished.

I know, I know. You were freaking out too.  But don’t worry, the page is back up and all is well.  I really like my hosting company, and it’s a great deal to get 3 years of domain + hosting with all the bells and whistles I have access to for the price I pay, but I sure would like them to send me invoices for the stuff before hand rather than just cut me off. This is the second time in 2 billing cycles it’s happened.
Anyway, more importantly, MLS 2008 kicks off today. My Reds kick off the season with a game at Columbus and a few thousand Toronto supporters are making the trip down. Awesome, imo.
Unfortunatly, my banks won’t let me put any money on bodog because I really wanted to bet on some games today.
TFC +1 (-155) is almost free money. Get on that stat.
Colorado/LA over 2.5 (+125)Â Would’ve been all over that ish.
I guess I’m going to have to take the long route of funding some kind of online wallet and then depositing from there. Oh well. Gotta do what I gotta do.

I don’t do this very often. Well, not in a serious tone at least.
However, I’m very proud of myself right now and want to let you the half dozen readers in on it. Everyone knows I’ve been applying to grad schools to go back and get my MBA. I’ve been accepted to GT already and am very likely to go there barring any unforeseen events. It was always 1b on my list because of the location, education and cost. Berkeley was 1a, but it would’ve taken some serious thinking before I could decide between those 2 considering the move and all.
I didn’t really go telling everyone about my acceptance to Tech or that they are considering me for scholarship positions either. I guess that surprised some people when they found out because they would’ve made a big deal out of similar circumstances. And deservedly so. I don’t want to come of sounding disingenuous because I am extremely grateful I was able to get in to such a good school, it’s just not in my nature to go telling everyone about it when it happens. I think that lies at the foot of a whole list of things about me, but we’ll save that discussion for another time called never (aka whenever I’m not working so much and can get just that right kind of tipsy while around a computer).
But, since I’m letting that out, I may as well let a few more things out as well. I’ve been offered partial or full scholarships based solely on my GPA and GMAT score from the following schools so far:
Tulane
University of San Diego
University of California, Riverside
Notre Dame
Florida International University
Wake Forest
I guess I really am kinda smart.

So this thing is pretty much incredible. I’m sure you’ve heard that Sports Illustrated put all of their back issues up for free online, but if you haven’t actually used it, you need to. It’s awesome.
I’m probably going to post a lot of links from this here dealing with Tech, Kentucky, Atlanta sports teams, or anything else I find interesting, so be prepared. Right now I’m pretty much searching for a keyword and then reading through all the articles from oldest to newest, so I can learn about the progression of it all. There’s a not-insignificant chance I spend enough time to make people at work upset looking at this thing.
So, I might as well start off with this one: In 1966, Georgia Tech was considered the 20th best football program in history.

This is an excerpt recent entry from newly-formed blogger Gouda, and his sure-to-be-short-lived blog It’s Always Sunny in ATL. This is referencing the incredibly entertaining and degrading show Man vs Beast, more specifically the Kobayashi versus a bear hot dog eating challenge.
-During all of the competitions, I rooted for the humans, and I was prepared to do it again in this segment. But then, the genius producers of the show made me switch my allegiance. Behind the bear – they put an American flag, and behind Kobayashi they put a Japanese Flag.
Get you some Gouda. Enjoy the full thing here.

As you are almost certainly unaware, the Olympic qualifying for soccer is going on right now. The games are all being shown live on FSC, but since I’m working the “God has forsaken you” shift, there isn’t much I can do. So, I record them. Likewise, the CONCACAF Champions Cup is going on right now with two MLS teams (DC United and Houston Dynamo) . Again, I’m stuck recording the matches to watch later (usually at 5am when I get back from work).
However, since I get bored rather quickly working in a job where all I do is answer questions and I get maybe 8 questions in a 12 hour shift, I always end up reading play by play threads over on BigSoccer, and checking scores on ESPN. Before I even leave for the day I know who played well, how/when all the goals were scored, and when the match is worth turning off.
So, damn you internet. Damn you and your instant gratification that is ruining watching the matches for me.

I just learned that a tornado ripped open part of the Georgia Dome about an hour ago. God willing, this won’t affect the semi-finals tomorrow since Pete is hooking us up with a couple tickets to (hopefully) watch UK.
Now we’ve got some tornadoes about 3-4 miles away from the warehouse I’m working at. Last Saturday we lost power for about an hour thanks to another tornado.
Stop effing my world up weather. Just be nice for a little while.

The gas light went on in my car about 20 miles from work today. I was a little nervous after I decided to just go to work and worry about filling up when I left to get some food, but I got back just fine so everything’s okay. I am still batting 1.000 at not running out of gas.
The closest I ever came was on the first night of my drive back from LA. I filled up on my way out at the corner of Veteran and Santa Monica (for the two people who that means anything to). I got through Barstow (~120 miles) cruising just fine. When I got to Needles (~250 miles) I had to make the decision between going for it and heading to Kingman Arizona, or sucking it up and getting gas. I chose the latter.
My low fuel light came on about 40 miles short of Kingman and I’ve approximated my post-fuel-light-mileage to be right at 30, give or take. Again, I’ve never run out of gas, so I can’t be positive about this.  Either way, I clearly wasn’t planning on pressing my luck any further at 11:30 at night surrounded by a landscape of what looks to be the set from The Hills Have Eyes.
Of course, with that desolation comes no gas stations. Somewhat troubling considering my plight and surprising since I had passed at least one refinery already. 5 miles in, no gas stations, no signs. 10 miles in, no gas stations, no signs. 20 miles in, no gas stations, one sign saying there is a gas station that may or may not be open in about 5 miles. I make it to that delightfully disgusting gas station and gladly paid $3.63 per gallon for regular unleaded, and celebrated with a Red Bull and a bag of dark chocolate M&Ms from the nice Indian cashier.
I was able to put 15.35 gallons that night in my tank, which is apparently 15.6 gallons according to my manual. That marks both the only time I’ve ever put more than 15 gallons in my car, and the only time I’ve paid more than $50 for a fill up.
To really bring the story to a full circle, the gas station I filled up at today was also the first gas station I stopped at on the way out to California as the warehouse I’m working out of is about 2 miles away from it.

I’m working the 3pm to 3am shift right now at our new warehouse trying to help get things set up, so I’ll probably be posting a few times tonight since there is only so much to do and I need to stay awake. There is plenty of free coffee though, so even though I haven’t had an coffee in around 6 months to try and keep my blood pressure down, I can already see myself succumbing to that sweet, sweet drug.
Anyway, now that that’s out of the way, here are the 6 CDs in my car right now with a few good track from each.
1 : Yael Naim -Â Yael Naim (New Soul, Far Far, Yashanti)
2 : The National – Alligator (Secret Meeting, Mr. November)
3 : Ingrid Michaelson – Girls and Boys (Die Alone, Breakable, The Way I Am, Far Away)
4 : Coheed and Cambria – No World For Tomorrow (No World For Tomorrow, Mother Superior, IV – The Road and the Damned)
5 : The Magnetic Fields – Distortion (California Girls, Drive on Driver, Too Drunk to Dream, The Nun’s Litany)
6 : Fountains of Wayne – Traffic and Weather (Fire in the Canyon, I-95, New Routine)
So, there you go. Do with this information as you wish.
