Nothing Too Special

March 21st, 2006 — 4:14pm

So, turns out I was way off the mark with that OSU pick. I figured they’d keep hitting 3s, and find a way to at least semi-contain G-town’s big men. Boy was I wrong. That loss puts me at 4-4 overall for the tournament, but still up 0.76 units, thanks to some good line shopping.

As for the draft pool, you can still see the results at http://ncaa.f2f2s.com and you can see that Klein is out in front right now with a dozen points. However, I’m hard pressed to pick a winner right now. Yeah, Klein has the most points, and 4 teams still alive, but one of those teams is Bradley, and the other 3 are all in the same regional, meaning he’ll lose at least 2 of them in the next two rounds. He’s guaranteed 1 point, and could get 3, which he probably will, but still loses 2 teams in the process.

Steve’s done. He has 3 teams left, 2 are playing each other, and the 3rd is playing UConn. Little Klein is hurting too. He has Duke, and they could be good for a few more points, but Wichita State isn’t getting more than one more (and hopefully none). Els has UConn, BC and WVU. Those are some solid teams, but he’s in last place right now, and will probably lose WVU to Texas. He’s gonna need a deep run from UConn and BC.

As for me, I’ve got Texas, Memphis, LSU, and George Mason left. If Arizona had made some layups, and not called that stupid timeout, I could have 5 teams left, be tied for first, and have the win pretty much guaranteed. My chances come down to a 2 games, since Memphis and Texas should both win. If I can get one more point out of GMU, I’ll be really happy. And, if LSU can beat Duke like I picked in my bracket (the whole reason I drafted them) then I’ll be able to squeeze out one more point from them before I have LSU and Texas meeting each other in the elite 8. Then, obviously, I’ll hopefully have one of those 2 and Memphis meeting in the final 4.

Saturday

March 19th, 2006 — 8:29am

Lots of poker to play today, and some good basketball to watch hopefully.

Yesterday went well for me, and I’m hoping to carry it through to today. I think Klein’s gonna run away with the draft pool, but hopefully I can make deep runs with Texas, Memphis and LSU and at least put up a fight for 2nd place.

Like yesterday, I’ve only got one game I like at all.
Ohio State -2.5 over Georgetown, going off at -105.

Stats so far:
2-1 yesterday
4-3 overall for +1.76 units

Spring Break Starts…..Now

March 18th, 2006 — 11:05am

Thank Christ. I don’t have any plans, but I don’t want any. I have no money to spend really, so this break will be spent a lot like last year’s, with me actually playing poker, with some random excursions to Athens, and maybe Kentucky to hang out with Casey. If you want me to come visit you, let me know, and maybe I’ll fly there too. But you’re paying for drink.

Today’s Bets
First of all, after a disasterous day 1, I almost pulled into a tie for first in the draft pool. If Kansas hadn’t choked for a second straight year, I’d be with the Klein brothers at 7. Instead, Dave has 8, Mike has 7, I’m tied with Steve at 6, and Elsberry’s got 5. Pretty close all around, but I’ve lost 2 5 seeds and a 4 seed, and my upsets don’t have much of a chance of surviving any further. Oh well.

Wichita State +145 to win at pinnacle (1 unit)
Illinois -102 to win at nine.com (10.40 units)
WashU +106 to win at pinnacle (10 unit)

That last little bit is what we like to call a scalp. If Illinois wins, I make ~.196 units overall, if Washington wins, I make 0.2 units. Yeah, it’s not much considering how much I’m wagering, but it’s guaranteed. And that’s nice.

Overall Results
1-0 Yesterday
2-2 Overall for +0.11 units

Day 2 Bets

March 17th, 2006 — 9:25am

Memphis -12 +104 (sorry, I forgot the game was today)
That’s really the only game I care about wagering on, you can’t find it +104 anymore, sorry. I like UAB +3, but I refuse to bet against the Cats.
Also, I’m putting 1 unit on the field (not Duke or UConn) to win the tourney at -168.
And the record to date:

1-2 (1-2) -0.93 units
I just got back from a Skid Row concert, so I’m a little out of it. Yeah, Skid Row, at 8 in the morning. It was awesome. Great way to start off spring break. Anyway, I gotta go turn in a homework in MSE, and then I have ~500 hands to play before 6pm tonight to clear a bonus. After that, I have no clue what’s going on.

Tourney Time

March 16th, 2006 — 8:53am

It’s that time of year again. I’m going to neglect from posting a bracket, because I don’t feel good about mine at all. Every time I tried to make one, it had way too few upsets. I’m missing something, I just don’t know what.

That’s not going to stop me from betting though! You can see the draft pool I did with everyone at http://ncaa.f2f2s.com and I’ll try to update it as often as I can to keep the point totals up to date. For this one, each win a team gets is worth 1 point, no matter what round or against what ranked opponent. I think it’d be a lot more interesting if we had made it 4 points for a win over a 1-4 ranked seed, 3 points for 5-8, 2 points for 9-12, and 1 point for 13-16, but maybe next year. Also, hopefully we can get another person or 2 in on it next year.

Also, while I don’t have the money to go making huge bets, I’m going to give myself 30 units and put them on some games I like, and see what happens. I’ll post any picks here before the tip and we can see how much money I lose.

Dear Georgia Tech

Your wireless network sucks balls.  It’s way too slow, and loses connectivity.  Better yet, it’s especially bad at the ISyE complex, which is where I spend 90% of my time on campus.  Thanks for treating your highest rank program like shit with a horrible computer lab where the printer rarely works, and faulty internet connections.

Where I’ve Been

March 2nd, 2006 — 5:16pm

Losing Money!!!

Omaha-8 is the suckiest low variance game ever. By the way, all you people in STT use the term variance wrong, but I’ll cover that some other time. Also, my move up to the 33s failed (though not miserably) and now I might have to mix 11s in with the 22s. Stupid cashout curse.

Anyway, here are some pictures if you want to see everyting.

My omaha-8 experience so far:

My year long profit graph:

This thing is too ugly for me to have to look at it whenever I’m on this page, so I’m just gonna link it instead.

ouch

The last five days have been particularly rough as you can see.
