How Sad

June 27th, 2005 — 8:05pm

From a post on 2+2

So my friend calls me up today and tells me that Chris Moneymaker is at our local Winn Dixie. I blow him off but he is persistant so my roommate and I drive over there to check it out thinking it is certainly a prank. However, upon arriving we find Chris Moneymaker playing heads up with some random kid in the Winn Dixie.

Overall it was a pretty sad sight. All of about 5 people were gathered around and Moneymaker looked miserable. A man who I will assume was his agent/manager was begging people to come take pictures with him. So I did.

Anyway I had read the thread today about whether or not he was at the WSOP and decided to let you guys know he is here in Baton Rouge, Louisiana touring supermarkets. I think he is representing this “Canadian Club” whiskey or something.

I asked him personally if he was playing any events at the WSOP other than the ME because I had seen the thread on this topic this morning. He told me he was just playing the ME because he just had a daughter 18 days ago and he was busy with this advertising gig.

Anyway here is the picture taken about an hour ago at Winn Dixie, Baton Rouge, LA. My roommate is on the left and I am standing next to the Canadian Club showgirl “Bambi”:

Did you know…

June 27th, 2005 — 3:04pm

El Azteca killed a guy? I’m serious.

http://atlanta.creativeloafing.com/2001-08-08/news_feature2.html

On the day following the autopsy, the medical examiner notified the county health department that a large amount of Clostridium perfringens had been found in Bonds’ stool. The day after, county health inspectors visited El Azteca. Four days had passed since Bonds ate there. The inspectors took samples of beef from a steam table and delivered them that afternoon to a state lab, according to the health department’s investigative report. State epidemiologists found 6 million cells of the bacteria per gram of beef.

Fulton health department officials said those numbers warrant attention, since as few as 10,000 cells per gram can cause illness. But the numbers don’t indicate how harmful the beef could be, because different people have different reactions to the bacteria, officials told CL.

Crazy stuff.

Travelling

June 24th, 2005 — 6:15pm

God, I really need to go around the world. This sucks, Patrick and Apurva are in Southeast Asia, Javier, Rome, and Rahul are in France (and around Europe), Matt just got back from Australia/New Zealand a few months ago, and here I am still in America. Chad was in France recently too, as well as Australia a while back. Mike spent last summer in France.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against America, but everybody else has all the pictures, and stories, and experiences, and all I can do is just sit back and nod and ask them questions about how much more fun their European vacations were than whatever I did.

So, now that I’ve decided I want to travel abroad, let’s look at the problems:

1) Money
I probably couldn’t afford the hotel costs+food for any meaningful length trip. Even if I can, I wouldn’t have anybody to go with, which would make the whole trip pretty much pointless.
2) Passport
Yup, I haven’t had a legitimate passport in the last, oh, 18 years. Again, I could get a passport, but look above for a reason I haven’t. Why pay the money for a passport if I’m not going anywhere.

Ok, so there are only 2 problems, one of which is easily solvable, and the other of which is basically just me being a whiny bitch. I need to either get better friends, or find more money because this no-foreign-story crap is getting hella old.

Reuben

June 23rd, 2005 — 2:30pm

Well, Tech’s defense took another big hit when Reuben Houston was arrested by Federal agents for allegedly trying to buy 100 pounds of marijuana. This really sucks, for a lot more reasons than just losing a defensive star.

I went to high school with Reuben, and now go to college with Reuben. When my little brother watched games at Starr’s Mill, the only player he wanted to watch was Reuben. And now, whenever he watches a GT game on TV, he’s always cheering the hardest for Reuben. He’s not going to be able to cheer anymore. Even if Reuben does get off, I have no idea what’s going to happen, and it’s not really my place to speculate, or give out information, he won’t be playing football this fall, or ever again most likely. Worst case scenario, he spends the next 20 years of his life in jail.

The next 20 years. This is a kid who would’ve been accepted into Georgia Tech even if he had never seen a football. He was brilliant. He did everything he could to take advanced and honors classes through high school, not caring that he might get a lower grade in them, which could hurt his football eligibility. Instead, he excelled in those classes, and became a model student athlete. One of the best football players in Georgia, and one of the best triple jumpers in the country, and here he was taking harder classes than 90% of the students. If you were to look up starting players on football teams with the same kind of reputation as GT (4 national championships, 8 straight bowl games), I can guarantee that Reuben would be in the top 1% of athletes.

I mean, NFLDraftScout.com had him projected to go in the 2nd round of the draft this coming year. He had nowhere to go but up. He was going to be a millionaire in a couple years, and here he got arrested for something that would’ve made him ~20k.

That’s the worst part about it. This is a guy who had everything going for him. He was a hero in Peachtree City. Every parent loved him, and every kid wanted to grow up to be like him. I really don’t know what else to say about the whole thing.

I wish you the best 9.

Finally

June 19th, 2005 — 10:30pm

I just wanted to post this as proof that I actually made money in a session these past 2 weeks. I’ve been hemorrhaging money this month like it’s my job, and I though that this would be the same. Anyway, no real content other than to say that and point out that I can still beat this game. For all of you who have no idea what this means, 1BB in this graph = $2.

At the bottom of that I officially had hit my 2nd 200BB downswing. For my friends who, that’s really bad. Winning players rarely have downswings greater than 200BB, and 300BB is very very rare. The fact that I’ve hit 2 in ~57k hands means either I suck, or variance hates me.

Ok, that’s almost too much poker for one entry.

Tiger Woods looked like the old assassin Tiger for about 8 holes there today. I guess his new swing is starting to feel good because he was killing his drives 350 yards straight down the middle. Say what you want, but seeing him at his peak is one of the greatest pleasures for someone watching a golf match. I hope he can keep this up. It’s a shame that he hit a really bad chip on 16, and then 3-putted 17 because I have to believe that if he could’ve made it into a playoff he would’ve won.

Oh yeah, and I gave in and am watching the NBA finals. I couldn’t stay away from games that were being decided by 15+ points each, but by both teams. It was too much insanity to pass up. I have to see what’s going on.

The Mike Tyson of Hot Girls

June 15th, 2005 — 11:56am

Is Lindsay Lohan. So much talent, so much potential at such a young age, and look what she did with it. Threw herself under a bus. A bus with “make me look like a cracked out whore” brand tires.

Hot Lindsay:

New Lindsay:

And, just for the record, Paris Hilton is her Don King.

House Party Pictures for those who wanted them.

The Weekend

June 13th, 2005 — 3:34pm

Finally we got a group of people together again. It had been a while since I had hung out with everybody. We were supposed to have a party Friday at my place, but that fell through for some reason or another. I don’t remember the specifics, but I ended up watching HBO and reading, while all of the 21 year olds went up to Buckhead and hit the bars. I guess it worked out ok though, because we got to plan a little harder for the party Saturday night.

Saturday day featured the return of Justin Hale from 2 years of Mormon mission work. I don’t really understand the Mormon faith, but anyone who can spend 2 years out in Southeast Asia doing work like that gets respect from me, if only for that level of dedication to something.

The party Saturday night wasn’t anything special. It turned out to be probably 20 people just sitting around drinking. It was solid though, and I think everybody ended up having a good time. I consider it a successful party when nothing gets broken or stolen from my house, and, as of right now, this was a good party. I might notice something missing later, but I haven’t yet, and I’m pretty stoked about that Also, despite all of the “musicianship” demonstrated at the party, my brother’s drums and my guitar are still in perfect condition.

Anyway, as you can see it was a rather uneventful weekend in the grand scheme of things, but it was nice getting to hang out with everybody, and getting to drink again. However, I’m now 2 for my last 2 on waking up with horrible stomach pains after a night of drinking. I don’t know what this means, but it’s a wrinkle I’m not happy about.

Party pictures will be up sometime tomorrow.

ADHOC Running Diary

June 6th, 2005 — 4:01pm

I was going to clean this up, make it into coherent sentences, etc. However, I think this will give you a much better look into what was going through my mind during the ADHOC.

5:00 – starting the ADHOC
6:09 – about an hour in, just about right on pace. down a little, no biggie. moving to 1/2 at 7 prolly.
6:46 – eopivnflkfyuwq I can’t believe I’m losing this much to such horrible players. Gah, I hate variance. Eating my first yogurt cup of the day, it’s Strawberries and Bananas Yoplait Light, mmmmmm. I’m gonna be struggling to hit the hands requirement if I don’t start playing more 8 and 9 handed tables, and less 10 handed. Also, waiting to post in the BB is looking like a really bad use of time.
7:03 – 3 1/2 tables, 1 .50/1 table now. first pee break, 0 hands missed. poop breaks are gonna suck.
7:29 – I run amazingly good at 1/2, back in the black. also, GT+ kills processor, its turned off now. All me baby!!
7:43 – first connection problem, how i hate thee earthlink
8:38 – shaping up to be the most profitable 24 hours ever for me. Up $140.12 so far, and halfway through at $150 bonus.
9:12 – brain starting to mush…
9:47 – ~5 hours in. Doing surprisingly well right now, mentally and monetarily. up about $190 right now, and still know words like monetarily. slowly catching up on hands. getting hungry, almost first movie time.
9:53 – hero is slowly catching up on hands, until his connection goes out again!!! damn you earthlink!! asdf;lisajfd;lknmdf
9:56 – mmmm peanut butter sandwich…
10:56 – about to put in first dvd, sippinsoma is gone. over $300 now. shadow says my 14.48/6.74 stats are nitty, i say im winning >16bb/100
11:49 – AP, erobt, laughing way too hard.
12:30 – the downswings have started… ouch, ouch, ouch
1:00 – SippinSoma is the proprietor of everything -EV. I talk to him for about 120 hands; -70BB, just like that. It was disgusting. 2 sets went down, K-hi flush to A-hi flush, rivered 2-prs, slowplayed trips, the works. almost exactly 2000 hands in, at almost exactly 8 hours. So I’m on track pretty much now.
1:13 – I want to break something
1:42 – putting in first american pie movie, maybe this will make me happier
2:30 – still steaming, first redbull, must calm down, make good choices
3:50 – finished eating, MUUUUCCH better
5:00 – halfway through. about to watch american Wedding. hopegully I have better results here than with american pie.
6:37 – running strong, not tired somehow, thinking well. SH players bad
7:37 – i smell like lazy and degenerate. its disgusting. a shower is going to feel so good in 10 more hours.
7:41 – im about 109348x tighter than usual i think. moderatly +ev situations are flying out the window. im adjusting play slighly, but this is as ABC as it gets
8:20 – lonely. no aim, no 2+2 action, time for another movie i guess. no awful plays yet, but some mistakes, definitely. On Redbull #2
10:15 – Harold&Kumar over. winrate declining, suckouts mounting
11:20 – yuk i feel bad. I might be the first person to puke mid-ADHOC
12:15 – me: its basically a 2 button game for me now. fold and bet/raise. if they want a showdown, they can call.
me: ev went out the window about 4 hours ago
1:59 – ate an apple and slice of bread, feeling much better.
2:21 – of course…connection goes out again
3:03 – I want to punch things again. The suckouts are insane.
3:45 – thank god people are online to talk to. I want to go t o sleep sooooooo bad right now
4:25 – AHHH OVVERLOAD!!1 I HATE YOU AND YOUR DAMN A5 THAT BEATS AQ, OR YOUR K7 THAT BEATS QQ, OR YOU 59 THAT BEATS TT
4:50 – all shorthanded tables now to try and get to 6k hands, if I don’t finish with >6000, this whole thing is a wash, and I am not ADHOC:Chrome
5:00 – I closed all the tables, and am importing the final hands in now.
