New Look

May 31st, 2005 — 7:05am

Do you like it? I got bored, and was noticing that probably 75% of the other blogs I see have the same color scheme. The blue stuff is a skyline of Atlanta from Tech, and the grey is a MARTA map. The white lines are just there for contrast and to look cool. It makes me feel artsy. Also, I made it possible to reply anonymously to posts, so now you don’t have to have a blogger account in order to reply. Hopefully that means someone actually will now.

Anyway, I’m just wanted to show off the new look. I’ve been spending all of my time cleaning the basement lately so that I can get comfortable living back in the house for a few months. Also, I’m doing everything I can to get the garage sale crap ready to go ASAP so it’s not sitting in the corner of the basement much longer. Starting Saturday it’s another 3 weeks of me, my sister, and a house too big for either of us to clean, so I want to get as much done now as possible. It sucks to have to clean for 2 hours before having people over for a party, but really the only options for me are either stop caring about how the house looks when other people show up, or go ahead and get everything in order now. Easy choice.

Hope you enjoy the new look and ability to comment freely.

Natalie Portman or The Force?

May 28th, 2005 — 2:37am

You have the following two options to choose from:
a) Natalie Portman is yours. She is in your bed every night.
b) You have the Force (light side) and a light saber.

Now, let me lay out a few groundrules for this arguement.

First, just because you have the Force, doesn’t mean you can do the Jedi mind trick to get Natalie Portman into your bed everynight. For starters, you aren’t a Jedi (moran), and secondly, Natalie Portman isn’t weak-minded. In fact, for the sake of this scenario, no girl is weak-minded enough that you could use the Force to get her into bed any more than you could use your current charm to get her into bed. Also, it’s only the light side of the Force you have, no electricity shooting or midiclorean messing with. This means no robbing banks and whatnot with your newfound abilities, the light side of the Force would preclude you from making such bad decisions.

Now, if you choose Natalie Portman, you get all of the benefits that come with it. She genuinely adores and loves you, and you get bangbangbang all you want. Since you’re a couple now, you share the same bank account, so money is no longer an issue for you. Also, you get the same A-list treatment as her anywhere that she would.

Soooo, what is it?

BBL Concert Pictures

May 24th, 2005 — 8:19pm

Nothing major to say here. I’m running good, and that’s always fun. I played some tourneys and fell a little short of break even. Blah blah blah. Rabble rabble rabble. Here are the pictures.

http://www.f2f2s.com/LetdownShow.htm

I really like the background on that page. Between that and the fact that the f2f2s main page is completely unused, I think I’m going to redesign it so it doesn’t suck to look at, and try to actually make it something worthwhile, rather than just a domain to host this blog. The offer’s still out there, if anyone wants me to put something up, just let me know. Write something, send me pictures, videos, I really don’t care. Just make the page entertaining.

Taking Shots/I Heart Tiltblocker

May 24th, 2005 — 3:09am

I have a bad habit of being what you might call, results oriented. If I’m having a bad day at the tables, I tend to let that affect my mood, which in turn, affects my play. This is tilt. This is bad.

Enter Tiltblocker2000. I was IMing with a friend from 2+2 and he brought up Tiltblocker 2000, which was in a post on one of the boards. I had never looked at it before, figuring that it was just something random. Oh, was I wrong. Basically, you can open a bunch of Tiltblocker windows to cover the amount of money you have at all of your tables. I also use them to cover the results in PokerTracker because I like to see how many hands I’m playing in a session. Let me give you a demonstration on how it works:

As usual, click the pictures for a full-size version.

Withough Tiltblocker 2000:

With Tiltblocker2000:

Voila. Now it’s impossible for me to be results oriented, because I can’t see the results!! This worked out really well for me in my trial run tonight. I could tell I was playing well, and I felt like I should be up (and I was), but I really had no idea, and that didn’t bother me in the least. I would’ve felt bad had I looked at the results at the end of the session and seen I was down $40 or something, but at that point I’m not playing anymore, so it isn’t harmful to my game.

Also, I’ve been putting in a lot more hands at 2/4 lately, and I think this will let me put in more, because the beats won’t sting as much when I don’t know if I’m down or up for the day. That said, I have been playing less than optimally there. I’m making some bad calldowns, but mostly I’m just running poorly I think. For the month of May, I’m running at 16.83 BB/100 at the .50/1 game, 5.15 BB/100 at 1/2 6max, 0.55BB/100 at the 1/2 full tables, and -4.28BB/100 at 2/4. If you switch those number around, I could be having a KILLER month. Oh well, what are you gonna do?

I was watching Tiltblocker friend (SippinSoma on 2+2) play some 5/10 6max tonight. It was his first time playing there as he’s usually a 3/6 player. Anyway, he was taking a shot, and it turned out pretty damn nice for him, as he ended up $340 after about an hour and a half. This is the kind of thing that helps you move up, and it’s why I need to keep playing 2/4. Taking shots at higher limits is a dangerous thing to do, especially if you’re underbankrolled, but if you’re smart enough to know when is when, and liquid enough to shuffle between limits, it can be a great way to gain experience, and ultimately move up to higher levels.

Anyway, all I’m trying to say is that I love Tiltblocker 2000, I’m going to play more 2/4, because I can beat it, and taking shots is a good thing (if done right), that I don’t do enough of.

Oh yeah, and I found my camera, so BBL pictures will finally be up tomorrow after it charges.

The Past 2 Days

May 22nd, 2005 — 3:39am

Slowly I’m starting to readjust to life in the bubble. I got bored the other night, and finally got around to seeing the Incredibles. I had heard so much good stuff about the movie that I was hesitant to see it, thinking it couldn’t be as good as people said. It was a pleasent surprise though, and I enjoyed it from start to finish. So, now the list of movies that everyone likes that I haven’t seen yet is down to:

Finding Nemo
Pirates of the Carribean
Sixth Sense

Hopefully I will get around to watching these, and they will be turn out as good as advertised, unlike Fight Club, which was good, but is highly overrated.

Also, I got around to playing golf a couple days ago, but I didn’t post the score. It was bad. Not quite double-bogey bad, but not far off. Let’s just leave it at that, and I’ll post a better score when I play Braelinn again later.

Quote of last night
Carson Daly to one of the Wailers (Bob Marley’s band): “How do you keep that hat on?”
“Shut up white devil.”

Star Wars

May 19th, 2005 — 4:24pm

For the first time ever I went to see a midnight showing of a movie. Well, I’ve been to shows at midnight before, but never for an openning night show. I was actually disappointed that there weren’t more people dressed up like storm troopers and such, but oh well. The movie-going experience probably would’ve been better if I didn’t have to sit on the armrest of the chair to see over the wall that was conveniently in front of me.

As for the actual movie, I thought it was really good. Not quite as good as Episodes 4 or 5, but certainly better than the first two. Obviously the dialogue wasn’t the greatest ever written, but if you’re going to a Star Wars movie to hear Anakin wax poetic about his love for Padme, I think you have the wrong movie. The fight scenes are pretty badass, if only a little too fast and choppy, and when Anakin gets his Vader suit, it’s awesome.

One thing I want to say: Stop cheering for Yoda. Yeah, he’s small and green and kicks ass, but that doesn’t mean you have to applaud every time he does something. He’s a Jedi for Christ’s sake, he supposed to be able to throw people across the room with a wave of his hand, or do backflips and chop storm troopers’ heads off with his lightsaber. If you want to laugh at him riding on Chewbacca’s shoulders, that’s fine, but please, no one cheered for Mace when he was beating Palpatine down, and Samuel L. Jackson should be cheered for at all time simply on principle.

Overall – I think Revenge of the Sith is worth a solid 8 out of 10, and you should definitely go see it in the theaters.

No Classes

May 16th, 2005 — 6:29pm

It’s official. I’m not doing anything to benefit society this summer. There were no other classes I could take MWF near the 2-3 class I was already signed up for, and I wasn’t about to spend that much money in gas, and spend more time in the car everyweek than in class. Plus, 3 hours isn’t going to make me graduate a semester earlier.

I celebrated my newfound freedom by losing about $150 last night in a variety of poker games. Some 1/2 6max, some sit-n-go tournaments. Overall, just a bad night of poker. I managed to make back about $30 of that in a short early session today, so that was nice.

Since I’m not going to classes, I’ll be playing a lot of poker, because I really don’t want to get a job. I figure I should average 1k hands per day throughout the summer. Assuming I do this, and am able to finally move up limits I want to do the following things, in this order:

1) Pay off the credit card entirely
2) Buy new golf clubs, and get rid of my 2 old sets
3) Get a new computer, and another Dell 2001fp monitor
and a lot further down the list
4) Get a laptop
5) Pay off my car a year early

So, I’ll be making regular updates now about poker winnings, and just the general boringness of Peachtree City. Oh yeah, since I don’t have anything else to do, I’ll probably be travelling a lot too. I only fly free for a little longer, so I have to make sure to take advantage of it while I still can. If you would like for me to come visit you, or would like to go somewhere with me, let me know.

Me v. Bat

May 15th, 2005 — 12:04pm

Let me give you the rundown of my night last night.

First, I play Nottom in a HU match for the CHUMP/MILF tourney going on in the micro forum of 2+2, and manage to suck out enough to win. Now, it’s probably 10 or 10:30, and I’m pretty bored. I end up watching the end of Law and Order and kept watching the news afterwards. On the news, they did a piece about the free frosty weekend, and I was hungry, so it made perfect sense. Also, the Will Ferrell SNL was coming on soon, so I got in my car and headed to Wendy’s and then a friend’s house.

Well, thanks to being back in the suburbs, Wendy’s closes at 11 on a Saturday night, so no eating great, even late for me. I go to my friend’s house, disappointed I don’t have a frosty and watch the Will Ferrell SNL. It wasn’t very funny. The writers suck hard now. In an attempt to salvage the night we watched Closer, which I hadn’t seen. It’s a pretty good movie.

Ok, so that was basically the set up for this. I get back to my house at like 3 or 3:15 and watch something on HBO or TMC or some movie channel. I plan on crashing on the couch in the living room because it’s comfortable and no one else is home, so I won’t get woken up early.

Anyway, it’s probably around 3:45 and I’m almost asleep, when my golden retriever starts chasing something through the living room. I see it flying around by the TV, so I figure it just another moth, because we get those a lot. A couple minutes later it comes by again, and this time I’m not so sure it’s a moth. It’s flying pretty high and it looks like it’s flapping pretty hard. It can’t be a bat. We don’t get bats in the house. The neighbors across the street get bats in their woods, and around their pool at night, but this is a house, no bats in a house.

I hear a couple more fly-bys and I finally decide to turn on the light. Yup, it’s a bat. THERE’S A FUCKING BAT IN MY HOUSE!! HOLY GODDAMN SHIT MOTHERFUCKER ASDFJA;SLFKJASD;LFKJDSF!!!!

It takes me a minute or two to comprehend what’s going on here, and I have to figure out how to get this bat out of my house. It’s not a little bat either, it’s got about a 10 inch wingspan. All I know is bats don’t like light, so I start turning every light on this level of the house on, and turn the stairway light on too so that it won’t go upstairs. The whole time I’m doing this, I’m constantly looking over my shoulder waiting to be divebombed by a pissed off bat, and carrying my comforter for protection against said divebomb.

Anyway, long story short (relatively), there’s a lot of yelling at my dogs to get the bat, a lot of me swinging a blanket as it flies around the house, and a lot of me ducking like a little bitch when it comes near me. By about 4:30 this is getting old. I’ve been trying to run this thing out the open doors for almost an hour now, and it’s not working. I end up getting it close to the door, but then it turns and starts flying at my face. All I can do it scream like a bitch, and swat at it with the blanket. I connect and the bat is twitching on the hardwood.

I throw the dog blanket over the bat, and try to figure out how to get it outside, because it’s not dead, and I’m sure not going to touch it. Interesting side note: good thing I never ended up killing it, because apparently they’re endangered. Somehow, I end up giving up on the bat removal plan, and actually fall asleep in the recliner. I wake up about an hour later to hear that god damn bat squeaking and the same golden retriever playing with something in the corner after moving her blanket off the bat. That bitch.

So, I have my second fight with the bat of the night, and this time, manage to get it out the door with the help or a broom, a blanket and a sheet. All of which are still on the front porch right now because I haven’t openned the door. I slept with all of the lights on, and I’m still scared to open doors on the other levels of my house because I haven’t purified all rooms of possible bats. That’s all.

tl;dr – Play HU match. Watch L&O and news, get hungry. No frostys cause Wendy’s closes at 11. Will Ferrell SNL sucks. Closer is a good movie. Get back home at 3. See bat flying around house at 3:45. Fight with bat until around 4:45 when I knock it out. Fall asleep. Wake up at 6, and my dog freed the bat from his blanket prison. Fight with bat part 2 until 6:45 when I knock it outside with a broom. Slept with all the lights on, and still afraid to open doors.

Short Athens Report

May 12th, 2005 — 3:10pm

A couple quick facts:

1) Toppers pre-11pm = shaaaaaaaaady

2) $1 house shots make up for shadiness in about $7

3) Ryan Casey is AWESOME

4) Going to a bar and having Shoe open a tab only has two possible endings:

  • Shoe runs up a $170 tab
  • We order $50 in drinks and he only gets charged $12

5) Gin still gives me a hangover

That’s all there really is to say about the trip. It was fun, and we’ll probably be doing it again a few times this summer since nobody is in PTC.

I have a goal for the summer now. Other than the fact that I don’t want a job, so I’ll be playing a lot of poker, I wanted to give myself something to do for the next few months other than take 6 hours of class. I decided that the best option would be to try and play all 11 golf courses in the metro-area where we have a membership. So, on Monday I played at Planterra, but only 9 holes, so it doesn’t really count. Today I’m about to go play Flat Creek, but again, we’ll see how many holes Ben and I decide to play once we get there. Either way, each time I actually play an 18 hole round of golf, I’ll put the score up here, so that you can laugh at me, and feel a lot better about your own golf game.

Oh yeah, and get the Bloc Party cd. It’s called Silent Alarm and it’s really, really good.

Sorry, sorry, sorry

May 9th, 2005 — 11:32pm

I know, I haven’t done anything on here in forever, but I’ve been busy with finals, projects, and then moving out of the apartment. I have a lot of stuff to add over the next couple days, including the BBL pictures that everybody keeps asking me for. Trust me, they would be up right now, but I lost my camera in the move, so I have to go on a scavenger hunt before I can upload those.

In a random family note I finally went to one of my brother’s lacrosse games, and was actually impressed. His U13 team is better than either of the U15 teams that played before. Plus Patrick scored the first goal of the 2nd half that sparked his team to a run that got them from down 5-1 to up 10-5 by 2 minutes into the 4th quarter. They’re undefeated right now going into the playoffs this coming weekend, which I should probably go to, but doubtfully will because they’re in Roswell, and it’s a full weekend of stuff. I might drive up for the championship game though, since they’re all but guaranteed to win it (their closest game was 10-7, and the next closest was 12-4).

There, I had to do that to embarass him, and I’ll even add to by putting up pictures of him later. That’s what he gets for stealing my blog title on his AIM profile.

Ok, new topic. Ryan Casey cemented his status as best human being ever today by doing 2 things.
1) He finally came back from Kentucky and we’re going up to Athens tomorrow for all sorts of problem causing activities.
2) When I told him that everyone else is going to Vegas 2 weeks before I turn 21 he said “Alright, I’ll go with you whenever you want after you turn 21. We’ll just crash in my dad’s hotel room while he’s on a layover.”
….
There’s no wrong response when someone says something like that.

So, check back soon for BBL pictures, actual poker content, the downtown with Casey stories, and little brother pictures.

And, if you’re really bored, you can see what I spent all my time doing when I wasn’t working on this site. My 4009 project (featuring no help from my group members): MLB StatBoy2004
